Springfield, Mo. – Strong storms continue to threaten much of southwest and central Missouri, including Springfield, Joplin, and Rolla, under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 10 p.m. Sunday, with potential for damaging winds, large hail, and localized flooding.
According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 395 remains in effect for 25 counties across Missouri and 3 in southeast Kansas. The watch includes major cities like Lebanon, Carthage, Fort Scott, and Neosho. It was extended to include McDonald County as of 5:51 p.m., adding Pineville, Noel, and Anderson to the alert area.
Heavy rain and strong wind gusts have already been reported along the I-44 corridor, prompting emergency managers to urge residents to stay indoors and monitor alerts. Greene, Laclede, and Lawrence counties remain at high risk for downed trees and power outages.
Travelers along I-49, U.S. 60, and U.S. 65 should be alert for reduced visibility and sudden storm development. Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items and have flashlights and mobile chargers ready in case of outages.
Storm activity is expected to weaken overnight, but lingering cells could prompt additional advisories. More updates may follow if conditions worsen.
