Quad Cities, IA/IL – A stretch of active weather is set to hit eastern Iowa and western Illinois this weekend, with storms expected in two distinct waves from Saturday night into Sunday evening.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, the first round of storms may develop late Saturday, bringing isolated showers and possible severe storms with gusts reaching up to 25 mph. Highs will range from the lower 60s to low 70s. The second round is expected Sunday, with a 60% to 90% chance of thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon and evening hours.

Sunday’s weather poses a greater risk for severe conditions. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the region under a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather, including the potential for damaging winds and hail. Winds will shift from the south to northwest at 15 to 25 mph.

Residents in Dubuque, the Quad Cities, and surrounding areas should remain weather-aware through the weekend. If traveling, monitor updates and have a way to receive alerts overnight. Secure outdoor items and review severe weather safety plans ahead of the storms.
