Rock Island, IL – A powerful burst of spring wind is expected to sweep across parts of eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois this afternoon and evening, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Wind Advisory for the region.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, the advisory will be in effect from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. CDT Sunday for counties including Rock Island, Muscatine, Dubuque, Linn, and Scott in Iowa. In Illinois, counties such as Jo Daviess, Carroll, and Bureau will be under the advisory from 4 p.m. until midnight.

West winds between 20 and 25 mph, with gusts reaching up to 45 mph, are expected across the advisory area. Residents should prepare for scattered power outages due to downed tree limbs and secure any outdoor objects to prevent them from being blown away.

High-profile vehicles may face difficult driving conditions, particularly on north-south routes. Motorists are urged to use extra caution and consider delaying travel during peak wind hours.

While wind events of this strength are not uncommon in spring across the Midwest, residents are reminded that even moderate gusts can cause hazards. Stay updated through local alerts and monitor changing conditions.
