Residents should prepare for temperatures to dip significantly by Monday, with frost likely in many areas, especially in low-lying rural regions. Wind gusts reaching 40 mph will sweep through the Quad Cities and surrounding areas Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service, today will be a mix of sun and clouds, with a slight chance of showers or storms in areas northeast of a line from Dubuque, IA to Princeton, IL. Highs today will range from the upper 60s in northern counties to the upper 70s further south.
By Sunday, a cold front will move through, bringing much cooler conditions. The day will be windy, with gusts of 30 to 40 mph, which could pose a fire danger for dry areas. Highs will only reach the upper 60s to near 70, with lows in the low 40s. Drivers on I-80 should use caution due to high winds, especially in open areas.
Frost advisories are expected Monday morning as temperatures drop to the mid-30s. Highs will struggle to reach 60 degrees during the day. Farmers and gardeners are advised to take precautions to protect crops and plants from frost damage.
Looking ahead, Tuesday will bring another frosty morning, with highs only reaching the mid-50s, and sunny but chilly conditions continuing. The cold snap will ease slightly by mid-week, but it’s a sharp shift from this week’s mild spell.
