Indianapolis, IN – Following heavy rainfall earlier this week, the National Weather Service in Indianapolis says the final rounds of showers will move across Indiana today into Thursday morning.

According to the NWS, rainfall totals will remain light overall, though brief downpours are possible, mainly south of Interstate 70. Most areas across central and southern Indiana can expect less than a quarter-inch of additional rainfall.

The weather service noted that by Thursday afternoon, northwest breezes will bring drier air, lowering humidity and breaking up cloud cover. That shift is expected to improve outdoor conditions heading into the late week.

The showers come on the heels of locally heavy rainfall Tuesday night, which led to ponding in some low-lying areas. Forecasters emphasized that while today’s showers may be lighter, motorists should still use caution during any sudden bursts of heavier rain.

Looking ahead, the trend toward drier and cooler weather should continue into the weekend, providing relief from recent damp conditions.
