Indianapolis, Ind. – Afternoon and evening plans across central Indiana could be disrupted Tuesday as strong to isolated severe storms move through the region between 2 and 8 p.m. The primary threats include damaging winds up to 60 mph, heavy downpours, and localized flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, the risk of severe storms will be highest across Marion County and surrounding areas, with storm activity spreading toward Bloomington, Lafayette, and Muncie by late afternoon. While the tornado and hail risk remain low, forecasters caution that strong straight-line winds and flash flooding could create dangerous travel conditions.

Interstate 70, I-65, and I-69 corridors may experience rapid ponding and reduced visibility, particularly during the evening commute. Drivers are urged to slow down on wet roads and avoid flooded underpasses. Power outages are also possible in neighborhoods where winds down trees and power lines.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, keep cell phones charged in case of outages, and avoid unnecessary travel during the peak storm window.

Storm chances diminish overnight, but additional alerts may be issued if storms redevelop midweek.
