Indianapolis, IN – A 14-year-old was arrested Monday, hours after the fatal stabbing of a schoolmate near Arsenal Tech High School.
IMPD East District officers responded to a call about a stabbing around 9 a.m. in the 400 block of N. Randolph Street. Upon arrival, officers found 14-year-old Anabel Trujillo with apparent stab wounds lying outside a residence. Medics pronounced her dead at the scene.
According to IMPD, homicide detectives began canvassing the area for witnesses and surveillance footage. With community members’ help, they obtained a suspect description. The suspect, also 14, was found on the grounds of Arsenal Tech High School and arrested without incident.
IMPD Chief Chris Bailey called the incident a “heartbreaking tragedy” and emphasized the need for violence prevention among youth. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will determine formal charges.
Authorities thanked the community and IPS Police for assisting in the investigation.
