Indianapolis, IN – Light snow and frigid temperatures are set to impact central Indiana on Tuesday, with travel disruptions possible. A quick-moving system will bring snow accumulations of less than an inch, followed by dangerous sub-zero temperatures overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, snow is likely by Tuesday morning, with wind chills dropping to -10°F by nightfall. Roads could become slick during peak travel hours, especially along I-465 and other major roadways in the metro area. Officials urge residents to drive cautiously and dress in layers if heading outdoors.
Tuesday’s high will reach 18°F, but brisk winds will make it feel much colder. By night, temperatures will plummet to as low as -2°F, marking the coldest night of the week. The snow is expected to taper off by evening, with skies clearing overnight.
Wednesday will offer some relief with sunny skies and a high near 18°F. However, the cold will persist, with wind chills remaining in single digits. By Thursday, temperatures will rise slightly, reaching a high of 32°F.
Residents are encouraged to prepare for the freezing conditions by ensuring pets are indoors, insulating exposed pipes, and checking on vulnerable neighbors. Those commuting on Tuesday morning should allow extra travel time and monitor road conditions.
