Indianapolis, IN – Two men were swiftly arrested following a robbery attempt that escalated into a shooting on Madison Avenue. Lazarrius Harrell, 21, and Markell Coles, 19, were arrested by IMPD Southeast District officers on alleged charges after a man was found shot on September 2, 2024.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to the 8000 block of Madison Avenue after receiving a report of a person shot. The victim was discovered with gunshot wounds and was immediately transported to Eskenazi Hospital in stable condition.
Officers on the scene quickly identified and detained three suspects, including Harrell, Coles, and an unnamed juvenile. Upon the arrival of detectives, the suspects were taken to the Aggravated Assault office for questioning.
The investigation revealed that the suspects had attempted to flee the scene on foot after trying to enter a vehicle that wasn’t theirs. Detectives secured search warrants and gathered evidence linking the suspects to the crime. Harrell and Coles were subsequently arrested for the alleged robbery, while the juvenile’s involvement remains under investigation.
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will determine final charges as the investigation continues. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
