An Indianapolis woman was arrested Friday in connection with an April overdose death, following an extensive investigation by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s Overdose Death Task Force.
According to IMPD, officers responded to a call around 3 a.m. on April 12 in the 2700 block of Plaza Drive, where they found 25-year-old Tanner Ballard overdosing. Ballard was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators allege the drugs were sold to Ballard by 25-year-old Carolyn Laucher.
Authorities said that on May 9, detectives obtained and served a search warrant at Laucher’s Danville residence, with assistance from the Drug Enforcement Administration, Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office, and Danville Police Department. Laucher was not taken into custody at that time. She was later located on August 8 in the 700 block of Shepard Street in Indianapolis and arrested without incident.
Laucher is charged with dealing a controlled substance resulting in death, IMPD said. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will determine final charges. Law enforcement officials stressed that all parties are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Police have released the case number — IP250032067 — and are asking anyone with further information to contact investigators.
