Indianapolis – Clear skies and calm winds are setting the stage for one of the coldest August nights in recent memory across central Indiana, with overnight lows expected to dip into the upper 40s and patchy fog forming by daybreak Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, several cities may come close to breaking historical low-temperature records. Forecast lows include 50° in Indianapolis (record: 48°), 46° in Lafayette (record: 44°), and 49° in Bloomington and Vincennes (record: 45°). Although some locations don’t officially track records, tonight’s temperatures will be unseasonably cold for late August.
Residents in Muncie and Terre Haute are also expected to wake up to brisk morning air, with forecast lows of 46° and 48°, respectively. The National Weather Service warns that patchy fog may develop just before sunrise, especially in low-lying or rural areas. Drivers are urged to allow extra time during the morning commute and to use low beams in foggy conditions.
Those heading out early should grab a jacket and consider dressing in layers. The cooler pattern is expected to ease slightly midweek, but additional advisories could follow if calm winds persist.
