Indianapolis, IN – An Indianapolis man sought for a firearms investigation triggered a standoff on the Fourth of July, ending in his death.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), the East District Violence Reduction Team and Violent Crimes Task Force attempted to apprehend the suspect at approximately 3:25 p.m. Thursday. The suspect fled, firing a shot during the pursuit. No officers were injured.
IMPD SWAT, K9 units, and Crisis Negotiators responded, locating the suspect barricaded in a home on Hawthorne Lane. Despite hours of negotiation and the use of tear gas, the suspect remained inside, setting off fireworks before fatally shooting himself.
Homicide investigators are leading the ongoing investigation, with no further threat to the community reported.
