Indianapolis, Ind. – Hoosiers will continue to sweat through steamy weather as hot and humid conditions stretch into Tuesday, with scattered thunderstorms at times that could bring localized flooding. Afternoon highs are expected to push into the 90s, keeping the state in a muggy summer pattern.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, Monday should stay mostly dry, but isolated storms cannot be ruled out. By Tuesday, the chance for scattered to numerous thunderstorms increases, bringing the highest risk for heavy downpours and localized flooding across central and southern Indiana.
Cities including Indianapolis, Bloomington, and Terre Haute could see brief but intense rainfall that may lead to ponding on roads and flash flooding in low-lying areas. Drivers are urged to slow down during storms and avoid water-covered roads. The heat, paired with high humidity, will also create uncomfortable conditions, with heat index values approaching the upper 90s.
The unsettled pattern may bring relief in some areas, but residents should be prepared for quick-changing conditions, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. Additional storm chances remain possible midweek.
