Indianapolis, IN – A stretch of late-summer heat is on the way for Indiana, with the National Weather Service (NWS) warning of multiple days of 90-degree temperatures through next week. The warmest conditions are expected on Sunday, September 14, with temperatures across much of central Indiana projected to push past 90°F.

According to the NWS Indianapolis office, Bloomington, Terre Haute, Vincennes, and Indianapolis all have high probabilities of exceeding 90 degrees Sunday, with Vincennes forecasted at a near 100% chance. The outlook extends through Friday, September 19, with daily chances of highs near or above 90°F continuing across the region.

Forecasters caution that this prolonged stretch of heat could pose health risks, particularly for vulnerable populations such as the elderly, young children, and those without access to air conditioning. The agency also noted that combined with dry ground conditions, the elevated temperatures could increase fire concerns across central and southern Indiana.

Residents are advised to limit outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and check on neighbors who may not have adequate cooling. Those planning weekend travel should be aware of the potential for persistent heat stress through much of the coming week.

The NWS said heat risks are expected to remain a concern until at least next Friday, with slight relief possible as conditions trend cooler beyond September 19.
