Fort Wayne, IN – June brought record warmth to Fort Wayne and South Bend, with both cities experiencing one of their top 15 warmest months on record. For the year-to-date, both cities are in the running for the top three warmest years ever.
According to the US National Weather Service Northern Indiana, average temperatures have been above normal every month this year. June’s high temperatures continue this trend, placing both Fort Wayne and South Bend among the hottest on record. If this trend persists, 2024 could be one of the top five warmest years ever.
Rainfall patterns also showed significant variability. Fort Wayne recorded 2.63 inches of rain, marking the 38th driest June. In contrast, South Bend saw 4.87 inches of rain, making it the 33rd wettest June. Despite these differences, both cities have seen above-normal precipitation totals for the first half of 2024. Year-to-date, Fort Wayne has received 23.47 inches of rain, the 14th wettest on record, while South Bend recorded 22.28 inches, the 16th wettest.
