Indiana’s damp holiday weekend pattern continued late this morning as low clouds and wet pavement stretched across Fort Wayne and much of northern Indiana. Fog lingered around parts of Allen County earlier in the day, briefly reducing visibility near I-69 and U.S. 30 before conditions slowly improved toward midday.
According to the National Weather Service, scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue developing through the afternoon with rain chances climbing to 80 percent around Fort Wayne. Some storms may produce brief heavy downpours and gusty winds between midafternoon and early evening, especially near the Indiana-Ohio state line.
Drivers should expect changing road conditions during the evening travel period. Water may collect on low-lying roads and exit ramps after heavier bursts of rain. While widespread severe weather is not expected, isolated stronger storms could still produce small hail and wind gusts over 40 mph.
Conditions begin settling down Monday as warmer air builds northward into the Great Lakes. Sunshine returns for much of Memorial Day with highs near 80 degrees across Fort Wayne, Auburn, Huntington, and New Haven. That warming trend accelerates Tuesday as temperatures climb into the middle 80s, bringing an early taste of summer across northern Indiana.
Humidity also rises through midweek. Another round of showers and thunderstorms develops Wednesday, and forecasters continue monitoring the potential for locally heavy rainfall. For now, the strongest severe weather threat remains low, but residents should stay weather-aware as unstable air pushes back into the Ohio Valley.
Long-range outlooks favor above-normal temperatures heading into early June, with warmer and more humid conditions likely lingering across Indiana.
