Indianapolis, Indiana — A rapid warmup will push temperatures into the mid-70s Monday across central Indiana, setting the stage for thunderstorms that could disrupt evening travel between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. in Indianapolis, Bloomington, Terre Haute and Muncie.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, dry and cooler conditions Saturday will give way to increasing moisture and instability by late Monday, triggering scattered storms during the late afternoon and evening hours across the region.
This is part of a broader system shifting from a cool weekend pattern into a more active storm setup early next week, increasing the likelihood of repeated rain and thunderstorm impacts.
Storms may produce brief heavy downpours capable of quickly pooling water on low-lying roads and underpasses, especially in urban areas of Indianapolis and along I-65 and I-70. Reduced visibility and slick pavement could slow the evening commute, while isolated gusty winds may bring down small branches.
Drivers should reduce speed during heavy rain and avoid water-covered roadways, while residents should secure loose outdoor items ahead of potential gusts.
The greatest risk for travel disruption will occur between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Monday, when storms are most likely to intensify across central Indiana.
