South Bend, IN – Northern Indiana will experience a shift in weather conditions today as a system moves in from the west, bringing widespread rain and the possibility of brief snow mixing at onset.

According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana, showers will begin this morning and move eastward throughout the day. The precipitation may briefly mix with snow at the onset, especially in areas near the Michigan border, before transitioning fully to rain. Rainfall will be most widespread from this afternoon into the evening hours.

High temperatures today are expected to remain in the low to mid-40s, ranging from 41°F to 47°F. A 30% chance of light rain lingers into Thursday, but conditions are expected to dry out by Friday.

By the weekend, residents across northern Indiana, including South Bend, Fort Wayne, and Elkhart, can expect much warmer temperatures. Highs will gradually climb from the upper 40s on Friday to the low 60s by Sunday.

Drivers are encouraged to watch for slick spots during early precipitation and to allow extra travel time during evening commutes. Residents should keep umbrellas handy today and prepare for a warming trend heading into the weekend.
