Indianapolis, Indiana – A comfortable break from the summer heat continues across Central Indiana today, but much warmer temperatures, increasing humidity and the potential for severe thunderstorms will return by early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, Friday will remain dry with seasonably cool conditions as afternoon highs reach 77 to 82 degrees and overnight lows fall into the upper 50s to mid-60s. Sunshine and comfortable humidity will make for ideal conditions across Indianapolis, Lafayette, Muncie, Terre Haute, Bloomington and surrounding communities.
The warming trend begins Saturday with highs climbing to 80 to 84 degrees. While most of the day will remain dry, isolated showers are possible. By Sunday, temperatures rise into the 86 to 91-degree range, and an isolated thunderstorm cannot be ruled out Sunday night as humidity continues to increase.
The hottest weather arrives Monday with highs of 89 to 94 degrees under hot and humid conditions. Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop, and the Storm Prediction Center has highlighted parts of Central Indiana in a Level 2 of 5 severe weather risk. While forecast details remain uncertain, stronger storms could produce damaging wind gusts, heavy rainfall and frequent lightning.
Residents should take advantage of the pleasant weather through Saturday to prepare for the hotter pattern ahead. Stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the afternoon and monitor updated forecasts for any changes to Monday’s severe weather potential.
The National Weather Service will continue refining the forecast through the weekend, with additional severe weather outlooks, watches or warnings possible as confidence increases.
