Fort Wayne, IN – Freezing rain and snow will impact northern Indiana early Sunday morning, creating potentially hazardous travel conditions before a significant warm-up kicks off the first full week of February.
According to the National Weather Service, light snow will move into the region before sunrise, eventually mixing with freezing rain. Ice accumulations should remain light, but untreated roads and bridges could become slick. By midday, temperatures will rise to the low 40s, allowing for gradual melting.
Monday marks a shift to milder conditions, with highs reaching 55°F under mostly cloudy skies. Winds from the south will help keep temperatures above average through Tuesday, when highs will still hover in the upper 40s. However, another cold front is expected by midweek, bringing a chance of rain Wednesday that could transition into a wintry mix as temperatures drop into the 30s.
Wednesday night into Thursday carries the highest risk for additional precipitation, with forecasts suggesting rain could turn to snow if temperatures fall quickly enough. By Thursday, highs will struggle to reach the low 40s, with overnight lows dipping back into the 20s.
Drivers should exercise caution Sunday morning, as slick roads are possible, especially on bridges and overpasses. The week ahead will feature rapid temperature swings, so residents should prepare for changing weather patterns.
The first full week of February brings both winter hazards and brief warmth, with another potential round of snow midweek. Stay updated on forecasts and be prepared for shifting road conditions as the cold front moves in.
