Indianapolis, IN – More than 50 lake and stream improvement projects across Indiana are receiving a major financial boost this year, thanks to over $1.1 million in Lake and River Enhancement (LARE) grants.

According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the funding will support 53 projects in 20 counties during 2025. Of the total, $643,300 will go toward 11 sediment and logjam removal efforts in 10 counties. An additional $473,640 has been allocated to combat aquatic invasive plants, funding 42 projects at 52 bodies of water in 13 counties.

The LARE program, funded through fees collected when boat owners register their crafts, aims to restore water quality and improve recreational access. These grants help tackle local environmental challenges that are often too costly for smaller communities to fund on their own.

Counties receiving funds include a mix of urban and rural areas, ensuring broad environmental impact across the state. Specific projects range from debris clearing to invasive species management.

DNR encourages residents to view the full list of grant recipients by body of water, county, and project type at lare.dnr.IN.gov. Project work is expected to continue through late 2025.
