South Bend, IN – A South Bend man was killed early Sunday morning after being struck by an Amtrak train near downtown South Bend, police said.
According to the South Bend Police Department, officers responded around 12:15 a.m. to the area of Michigan and Bronson Streets after receiving reports of a pedestrian being hit by a train. Upon arrival, officers found an adult male victim suffering from severe injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not yet released the man’s identity, pending next-of-kin notification.
The incident remains under active investigation by Norfolk Southern Police, who are working alongside local officials to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal collision.
No further details have been released at this time. It remains unclear whether the man was on or near the tracks at the time of the incident or if foul play is suspected.
