Merrillville, IN – Drivers in Lake County should prepare for overnight delays on a busy stretch of I-65 as lane closures begin tonight for pavement patching work.
According to the Indiana Department of Transportation: Northwest, I-65 will have overnight lane closures between U.S. 30 and 61st Avenue starting Wednesday, April 16. The closures will occur nightly from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and are expected to continue for the next week and a half.
The impacted area spans a key corridor between Merrillville and Hobart, a route heavily used by commuters and freight traffic. INDOT stated that the closures are necessary to facilitate patching operations, which are part of routine maintenance to improve road conditions and safety.
Motorists traveling through the area during the overnight hours should anticipate reduced speeds, potential delays, and changing traffic patterns. Drivers are advised to remain alert for construction crews and posted signage.
Crews will work through the overnight hours to minimize daytime disruption, though lane restrictions may lead to congestion during early morning travel times. No detours have been announced, but INDOT encourages drivers to consider alternate routes where possible.
Weather conditions may affect the duration of the project, but work is expected to wrap up by the end of April.
Motorists can check real-time traffic updates via INDOT’s social media channels or at 511in.org.
