Merrillville, IN – Drivers along I-65 in Lake County should prepare for overnight lane closures as pavement patching work moves into phase four starting Sunday, Aug. 24.

According to the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), northbound I-65 will see lane restrictions from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for about four nights beginning Sunday. During this time, traffic will shift from the left inside lanes to the right outside lanes, eliminating the counterflow lane for northbound vehicles.

Southbound I-65 will remain unchanged until Tuesday, Sept. 2, when overnight work between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. will temporarily move the left inside lane into a counterflow configuration on the northbound side. Motorists using the counterflow lane will not have access to the U.S. 30, 61st Avenue, or Ridge Road interchanges. The remaining two lanes will stay on the outside right shoulder and lane of the southbound side, with the work zone on the left.

The current ramp closures at U.S. 30 westbound to I-65 northbound and I-65 northbound to 61st Avenue are expected to reopen Sunday. However, during the overnight lane restrictions, the on-ramps at U.S. 30 and 61st Avenue will close intermittently.

INDOT reports pavement patching on I-65 will continue through mid-November, with schedules subject to change based on weather conditions.
