Indianapolis, IN – Rockville, IN, set a new temperature record Sunday morning as the town dipped to 38°F, breaking a 124-year-old mark for the earliest cold this time of year.
According to the National Weather Service, Rockville’s record surpassed the previous low set on September 9, 1899. In addition to this historic event, Anderson tied a 116-year-old record with a low of 38°F, matching a September temperature last seen in 1908. Other towns also experienced unseasonably cold mornings, with Crawfordsville hitting 36°F—the second-earliest low in 39 years—and New Castle reaching 37°F, tying a record from 1956.
Today’s forecast predicts a slight warm-up, with highs in the mid-60s, though brisk mornings are expected to continue. A return to warmer temperatures is forecast by Wednesday, with highs reaching the 70s by Thursday.
