Wayne County, IN — A Muncie man faces charges after troopers allegedly found fentanyl during a traffic stop on US 35. Senior Trooper Ray Otter pulled over the vehicle for speeding around 10:43 p.m. Monday near Williamsburg.
During the stop, the front seat passenger, identified as 34-year-old Chase Andrew Shell of Muncie, raised suspicion. According to Indiana State Police, Otter noticed indicators of criminal activity and called for backup.
Trooper Avery Weisbrodt arrived to assist. After establishing probable cause, the officers instructed the occupants to exit the vehicle. A search uncovered approximately 15 grams of suspected fentanyl and drug paraphernalia on the passenger side.
Shell was arrested without incident and preliminarily charged with possession of a controlled substance, a Level 4 felony. He also faces a misdemeanor charge for possession of paraphernalia.
