Crown Point, IN – A Thursday night snowstorm caused a massive crash on I-65 northbound near the Crown Point exit, involving 12 semi-trucks, multiple passenger vehicles, and a hazardous diesel fuel spill.
According to the Indiana State Police Lowell Post, the crash occurred at the 247-mile marker, prompting a hazmat team to contain the spill. Several drivers and passengers sustained injuries and were transported to area hospitals. Their conditions have not been disclosed.
All northbound lanes remain closed as crews work to clear debris and manage the hazardous materials. Motorists are being redirected to exit 240 (Lowell exit) to access alternate routes. Authorities expect the cleanup and investigation to last through the night.
Police urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel and monitor local updates during winter storms. With severe weather continuing, drivers should exercise caution and allow extra travel time.
