Pittsburgh, PA – A winter storm is moving into the region today, bringing snow accumulations of up to 5 inches and a chance of thundersnow, particularly in the ridges of West Virginia. Residents are advised to prepare for hazardous travel conditions and reduced visibility through Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service Pittsburgh, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Saturday, covering portions of western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, and northern West Virginia. Snow showers are expected to intensify during the late morning hours, with lightning potentially accompanying heavy snowfall between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The advisory warns of slippery roads and difficult driving conditions, particularly on major routes like Interstate 79 and Route 22. Motorists should allow extra travel time and ensure vehicles are equipped for winter weather.

Friday’s high is projected to reach 32°F, with snowfall tapering to scattered flurries overnight. Winds will increase, leading to wind chills in the teens by evening. Looking ahead, Saturday will be mostly cloudy with highs near 28°F and lighter snow chances in the early afternoon.

The extended forecast shows another snow system moving in Sunday night into Monday, with additional accumulations likely. Drivers and residents are urged to monitor updates from local weather services and prepare for potentially icy conditions throughout the weekend.
