Putnam, IN – Road closures will begin Monday in Putnam, Morgan, Owen, and Hendricks counties as the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) initiates chip seal operations.
According to INDOT, the projects are set to start on or after July 1, weather permitting, and will continue through late July. The work will affect several state roads, including State Road 236, State Road 243, State Road 42, and State Road 142. These closures are expected to cause significant traffic disruptions.
Crews will place message boards at each end of the project to alert the traveling public. INDOT advises motorists to find alternative routes during the chip sealing operation. In the event of weather delays, the schedule will be adjusted accordingly. Work will be completed under lane closures with flagging or full closures to protect both vehicles and workers. Existing pavement will be coated with liquid asphalt, which seals cracks and extends the roadway’s service life.
