Hobart, IN – A major road closure is set to impact traffic in Lake County starting Monday, April 14, as State Road 51/State Road 130 (Hobart Rd) will be shut down between State Road 51/Cleveland Ave and Hickey St through early August. This closure is due to work by NIPSCO for gas line relocation, which is expected to continue until early May. Once this work is completed, the road will remain closed for a culvert replacement project at Frog Creek.
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has announced that drivers will be detoured around the closure using U.S. 6 and State Road 149, or alternatively, I-94, I-65, and U.S. 30. The closure will also affect the State Road 130/State Road 51/Cleveland Ave roundabout, restricting traffic flow in the northwestern portion of the roundabout. Drivers will not be able to exit either north or west from the roundabout during the construction period.
Motorists are advised to plan for extended travel times and use the designated detour routes to avoid delays. INDOT urges all drivers to follow signage for alternate routes and remain cautious as work progresses in the coming months.
