Salem, IN – A small plane carrying three individuals skidded off the runway at Salem Municipal Airport Tuesday morning, ultimately coming to a halt in a nearby soybean field.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, the incident occurred at approximately 8:48 a.m. The department’s dispatch center received a report that an aircraft had traveled off the east end of the runway. Emergency responders, including police, fire, and EMS personnel, quickly arrived at the scene.
The pilot, accompanied by two passengers, was attempting to land the plane after traveling from Pennsylvania. During the landing process, the plane overshot the runway and ended up in the soybean field. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the three occupants.
