Hamilton, Ohio – Water is pooling on roads across southwest Ohio and eastern Indiana right now as repeated thunderstorms dump up to 2.5 inches of rain, creating flooding hazards before sunrise Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Flood Advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. for Butler and Warren counties in Ohio, including Hamilton, Middletown, Mason and Lebanon. Radar estimates show 1.5 to 2.5 inches of rain has already fallen, with another 0.5 to 1 inch possible overnight.
A separate Flood Advisory continues until 5 a.m. for Fayette, Franklin, Union and Wayne counties in eastern Indiana, including Richmond, Connersville and Brookville. Those areas have recorded 1 to 2 inches of rainfall, with up to 1.5 additional inches still possible.
Low-lying roads, small creeks and poor drainage areas are the main trouble spots. Drivers along U.S. 127, State Route 4, Interstate 75 and rural county roads may encounter standing water, especially in dark, unlit areas.
Emergency officials urge motorists to avoid flooded roadways. Most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles. If you see water covering the pavement, turn around immediately.
Advisories remain in effect through daybreak, and additional alerts could be issued if rainfall rates remain high into the morning commute.
