Angola, IN – A Steuben County man was arrested Tuesday evening after allegedly fleeing police on a motorcycle and discarding suspected methamphetamine during a short pursuit.
According to the Indiana State Police Fort Wayne Post, the incident began around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, when a trooper attempted to stop a Harley Davidson for speeding on County Road 600 East near County Road 400 North. The rider allegedly failed to stop and led the trooper to 5670 East 100 North, where he abandoned the motorcycle behind a structure.
Police said the trooper witnessed the rider throw an object as he got off the bike. After a brief struggle, the man—identified as 60-year-old Alan Jones of Angola—was taken into custody. The discarded item was recovered and reportedly contained a large amount of suspected methamphetamine.
Following medical clearance, Jones was booked into the Steuben County Jail on multiple charges, including:
- Dealing Methamphetamine (Level 2 felony)
- Possession of Methamphetamine (Level 3 felony)
- Resisting Law Enforcement Using a Vehicle (Level 6 felony)
- Obstruction of Justice (Level 6 felony)
- Resisting Law Enforcement (Class A misdemeanor)
- Intimidation (Class A misdemeanor)
Authorities said the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department and Steuben County EMS assisted in the arrest. All charges are allegations, and Mr. Jones is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
