Columbus, Ohio – Heavy rainfall is expected to return across the Ohio River and Lake Erie drainage basins starting Friday, raising concerns about localized flooding through the weekend.

According to the Ohio River Forecast Center, a shift from midweek dry weather will give way to widespread rainfall with totals ranging from 0.5 to 1 inch. However, isolated areas—particularly in southern Ohio, Indiana, and parts of northern Kentucky—could see rainfall amounts exceeding 3 inches by Monday morning.

Minor flooding is already occurring in parts of Indiana, where several river gauges have entered Action Stage. With additional rainfall expected, more locations could reach Minor Flood Stage by Friday night, especially in low-lying or flood-prone areas. Communities along the Scioto, Muskingum, and White Rivers should prepare for potential rises in water levels.

Drivers should avoid water-covered roads and monitor updates from emergency management. Residents are encouraged to clear storm drains, charge devices, and keep an eye on nearby creeks and rivers through the weekend.

Rain chances remain elevated into early next week, with more advisories possible as rainfall totals develop.
