Paducah, KY – A widespread flood watch is in effect across parts of Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, and Missouri as heavy rainfall threatens flash flooding through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, KY, the alert is in place from late Friday night through late Saturday night, with additional warnings extending into Sunday afternoon for some areas. Rainfall totals of 2 to 5 inches are expected, with localized amounts up to 6 inches. Given already saturated soils, excessive runoff could lead to significant flooding, especially along rivers, creeks, and low-lying areas.

Counties under the watch include all of western Kentucky, southeastern Missouri’s Mississippi and New Madrid counties, and portions of southern Illinois and southwestern Indiana. Cities such as Paducah, Owensboro, Evansville, and Poplar Bluff could experience street flooding and rising river levels.

Residents are advised to monitor updates and be prepared for potential flash flood warnings. Motorists should avoid driving through flooded roads, and those in flood-prone areas should have an emergency plan in place.
