Lafayette, IN — A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for northwestern parts of central Indiana, including Lafayette, Kokomo, and Crawfordsville. Officials warn of a heightened fire risk on Tuesday due to strong winds and dry conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, the alert spans from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. EDT. Expected wind gusts between 35 to 45 mph could quickly spread any open flame. The affected area includes regions north of Interstate 70 and west of Interstate 69.

Officials urge residents to avoid using open flames, as dry vegetation and high winds increase the risk of uncontrollable fires. Drivers should also avoid parking or driving over grassy areas, where sparks from vehicles could ignite fires.
