Jasper, Indiana – Slick road conditions along Interstate 64 in southern Indiana led to vehicles sliding off the roadway Monday, prompting warnings from state police as winter weather impacts continued.

According to the Indiana State Police Jasper Post, icy and snow-covered pavement on I-64 near the 80-mile marker caused at least one vehicle to lose control and leave the roadway during the early morning hours. Images shared by police showed cars off the interstate amid snow and ice buildup.

Troopers warned that slick conditions remain possible, particularly on untreated stretches of interstate, bridges, and shaded areas where ice can persist. Drivers were urged to slow down, increase following distance, and avoid sudden braking or lane changes.

While no injuries were immediately reported, police emphasized that even minor slides can quickly escalate into serious crashes when traffic speeds remain high. Conditions may worsen intermittently as temperatures remain below freezing.

Authorities advised motorists to limit travel if possible until road conditions improve and to remain alert for emergency vehicles responding to slide-offs or crashes.

The hazardous conditions are especially concerning for morning commuters and commercial drivers, as ice may be difficult to see in low-light conditions.

Indiana State Police said they will continue monitoring roadway conditions and responding to incidents along I-64 and surrounding highways. Drivers are encouraged to check road conditions before traveling and allow extra time to reach their destinations.
