Fort Wayne, Ind. – Northern Indiana is bracing for a dangerous combination of heat and storms Wednesday, as heat index values soar past 100°F and scattered thunderstorms bring a chance of damaging winds through 10 p.m. EDT.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, a Heat Advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. for much of the region, including Fort Wayne, Marion, and Peru. Peak heat indices of 95° to 102°F are expected, with the highest readings centered over east-central Indiana and northwest Ohio. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activity, and check on vulnerable individuals.

In addition to the heat, a marginal risk of severe thunderstorms exists across the entire region. While widespread severe weather is not anticipated, isolated storms may produce damaging wind gusts and heavy rainfall. The strongest storms could develop between noon and 10 p.m., especially along the U.S. 24 corridor near Logansport, Wauseon, and Lima.

Roadways may become slick in isolated downpours, and power outages are possible if wind damage occurs. Drivers should stay weather-aware and delay non-essential travel during storm activity.

More heat headlines may be issued Thursday and Friday as this dangerous pattern continues.
