Fort Wayne, Indiana –  Residents across northern Indiana should brace for sweltering, dangerous heat Thursday, July 24, as a Heat Advisory remains in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. EDT, with heat index values reaching 105° to 108° in some locations, including Fort Wayne and areas along Route 6.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, the combination of high humidity and afternoon highs near 93°F will push the heat index well into dangerous territory. Portions of northern Indiana, southwest Michigan, and northwest Ohio will be impacted. Locals are advised to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor work during peak heat, and check on vulnerable neighbors.

Relief comes in the form of scattered thunderstorms Thursday night into Saturday, but the trade-off includes a risk of heavy rain and gusty winds, particularly north of Route 6. Rain chances ramp up Thursday night (60%) and remain elevated (70%) into Saturday, with isolated storms likely both days.
