Indianapolis, IN – Flood warnings remain in effect for multiple rivers across southern Indiana, with minor flooding expected due to recent rainfall and snowmelt. The East Fork White River and White River are experiencing rising water levels, with flooding impacting low-lying areas.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Indianapolis, the flood warning affects locations along the East Fork White River at Williams, Bedford, and Rivervale, as well as the White River at Hazleton and Petersburg. Flooding is expected to persist in some areas until Wednesday morning.
At Rivervale, the East Fork White River is currently at 24 feet and is forecast to crest at 24.3 feet before receding below flood stage by early Sunday. The White River at Petersburg has reached 16.8 feet and is expected to peak at 17.4 feet on Sunday before falling below flood stage by Tuesday evening. Hazleton’s White River is projected to crest at 17 feet by Monday morning, remaining above flood stage until Wednesday.
Residents in low-lying areas should remain alert for potential road closures, particularly near State Road 450 in Williams and Bottoms Road in Knox County. Motorists are advised not to drive through flooded roadways, especially at night.
