Cedar Lake, IN – A Cedar Lake pole barn fire late Friday night drew a large mutual aid response from departments across Indiana and Illinois, according to local firefighters.

According to Cedar Lake Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 5141, crews responded around 10:48 p.m. to the 12300 block of Parrish Avenue for a fully-involved structure fire. The blaze originated in a pole barn and threatened a nearby detached single-family residence.

Homeowners, who reported noticing the fire while preparing for bed, called 911 and safely evacuated. The initial fire response was supported by numerous mutual aid departments due to the area lacking hydrants and for station coverage.

The fire spread to the nearby home but was quickly contained, though the structure sustained smoke and water damage. Firefighters extinguished the pole barn blaze after several hours, but the building was deemed a total loss.

No injuries were reported among residents or first responders.

The fire remains under investigation, and no additional information was immediately released.

While handling the fire, local units were also dispatched to two unrelated EMS calls. Cedar Lake firefighters expressed gratitude to their mutual aid partners, including agencies from both states, for their assistance during the busy night.

Departments involved included St. John Volunteer Fire Department, Crown Point Fire Department, Dyer Indiana Fire Department, and Crete Fire Department, among many others. Emergency communications were handled by Lake County 911 and Southcom 911.
