Westfield, IN – A drug case that began with the overdose of two Westfield Middle School students has reached a legal conclusion with the sentencing of two adults tied to the incident.

According to the Westfield Police Department, the case began on Sept. 24, 2024, when officers responded to reports of two students showing signs of a drug overdose. Investigators traced the source to a home on North Union Street, where they discovered methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and six children living in hazardous conditions. The children were safely removed by the Department of Child Services.

Freddy and Brooke Garcia were arrested and initially faced multiple felony charges including possession of meth and narcotics, and six counts each of neglect of a dependent. Under a plea agreement, Freddy Garcia was convicted on charges of F5 possession of meth and two counts of F6 neglect. Brooke Garcia was convicted on three counts of F6 neglect.

Sentencing took place earlier this month. Freddy Garcia received four years in prison followed by two years of probation on May 16. Brooke Garcia was sentenced on May 27 to 451 days in prison and one year of work release.

The Westfield Police credited the Middle School staff, School Resource Officers, and investigative units for their swift and coordinated actions, which they said prevented further harm and helped secure justice.
