Indianapolis, IN – An 18-year-old man and a juvenile were arrested by Indiana authorities following a drone-assisted firearms investigation on the east side of Indianapolis.
According to the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force (ICGTF), James Dycus Jr. and a 17-year-old male were apprehended near East 10th Street on Wednesday during a targeted operation that utilized aerial surveillance to monitor and track illegal firearm activity.
Investigators stated that drone footage reportedly showed Dycus allegedly handing a firearm to the juvenile near a gas station. The juvenile then reportedly returned the weapon after a short time. Officers moved in and detained both suspects, recovering the gun from Dycus’s jacket. Authorities said the firearm was equipped with an illegal “invisi-switch” machine gun conversion device and had previously been reported stolen.
The juvenile attempted to flee and was seen allegedly discarding a second handgun over a fence before being taken into custody. He was arrested for dangerous possession of a firearm with a prior conviction.
Dycus faces several preliminary charges, including possession of a machine gun (Level 5 felony), criminal transfer of a handgun (Level 5 felony), dangerous control of a firearm (Level 5 felony), unlawful carrying of a handgun (A misdemeanor), and possession of marijuana (B misdemeanor).
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will determine the final charges. Authorities emphasized that all suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
ICGTF is a multi-agency task force combining federal, state, and local law enforcement to combat gun-related crime through data-driven tactics and technological innovations such as drone surveillance.
