Indianapolis, IN – Residents across Indiana should prepare for a prolonged stretch of frigid temperatures and dangerous wind chills starting Sunday. The National Weather Service has issued an advisory warning of sub-zero wind chills and bitterly cold air that could pose health risks and create hazardous travel conditions.

According to the US National Weather Service in Indianapolis, light snow flurries and freezing drizzle are possible Sunday afternoon into the evening, with highs reaching only 35 degrees before plunging overnight to 17 degrees. Monday will be mostly sunny but bitterly cold, with highs near 20 degrees and lows dipping to 4 degrees.

The cold front will intensify Tuesday, bringing single-digit highs of 13 degrees and wind chills as low as -5. Residents are urged to limit time outdoors, dress in layers, and check on vulnerable individuals.

Travelers on major roadways like I-70 should be cautious as freezing precipitation could lead to slick conditions. The NWS forecasts a chance of snow and freezing rain Sunday night, which may linger into Monday morning.

Looking ahead, Wednesday and Thursday will remain cold, with highs of 17 and 26 degrees, respectively. Sunshine is expected to return midweek, but sub-zero wind chills may persist during nighttime hours.
