Raleigh, NC – Residents in several North Carolina counties, including Forsyth, Guilford, Davidson, Randolph, Avery, and Rowan, are being urged to exercise caution as a Fire Danger Statement has been issued for Thursday morning through the afternoon.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Raleigh and Greenville-Spartanburg reports that the passage of a dry cold front will significantly reduce humidity levels to as low as 27-30% in areas of the Northwest Piedmont and Foothills. Additionally, gusty winds reaching 25-30 mph are expected, creating conditions favorable for rapid fire formation and spread.

According to NWS coordination with local forestry officials, fine fuel moisture is anticipated to decrease during the late morning, compounding the risk. Residents are advised to consult local burn-permitting authorities before conducting outdoor burns and to use extreme caution if burning is necessary.

The affected areas include major cities such as Winston-Salem, Greensboro, High Point, Lexington, Asheboro, and Boone. Officials recommend postponing outdoor burning until weather conditions improve.

For updates, check local advisories and monitor the NWS website for changing conditions.
