Illinois Winter Weather: Amtrak Services from Chicago and St. Louis Halted Due to Extreme Cold

Chicago, IL – Severe winter weather is causing significant disruptions in Amtrak services across Illinois, with multiple routes experiencing cancellations today, January 16. 

The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced the suspension of several trains due to the extreme cold temperatures affecting the state. According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, the following state-supported Amtrak trains are canceled for the day:

  • Lincoln Service (Chicago to St. Louis): Trains 300, 301, 302, 305, 306, 307, 318
  • Saluki Service (Chicago to Carbondale): Trains 390, 393
  • Carl Sandburg Service (Chicago to Quincy): Trains 381, 382
  • Hiawatha Service (Chicago to Milwaukee): Trains 329, 332, 336, 337, 340, 341

Travelers are advised to stay informed on further updates and announcements regarding Amtrak services by visiting the Illinois Department of Transportation’s website at https://idot.click/cbd2fe. The department is closely monitoring the situation and will provide additional information as it becomes available.
