Illinois Weather Update: Rain Persists, Heat to Follow Beryl’s Departure

Chicago, IL – Rain will continue throughout the morning as Tropical Storm Beryl exits the area, bringing a mix of weather conditions for the remainder of the week. The National Weather Service Chicago reports that occasional afternoon showers and thunderstorms are possible through the end of the week. The region will experience rising heat and humidity as the week progresses.

According to the National Weather Service, today’s rain will be heaviest in the morning with isolated thunderstorms expected late in the day, mainly in the west. Temperatures will range from a high of 82°F to a low of 64°F.

Thursday will see partly sunny skies with a slight 20% chance of isolated thunderstorms. Temperatures are expected to range between 79°F and 83°F. Friday’s forecast is similar, with partly sunny conditions and temperatures rising to between 81°F and 87°F.

The weekend will bring more significant heat and humidity. Saturday and Sunday are forecast to have highs between 84°F and 90°F, with chances of thunderstorms increasing to 30%. The heat index is expected to peak between 98°F and 103°F on Sunday.

Strong and gusty onshore winds today will create dangerous conditions along the Lake Michigan shorelines. Waves of 4-8 feet are expected, leading to life-threatening currents. The National Weather Service advises avoiding swimming and adhering to posted warnings through tonight, with conditions improving by Thursday.
