Lincoln, IL – Warm temperatures and mostly fair weather are expected across central Illinois Tuesday before showers and thunderstorms develop tonight into Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

According to the National Weather Service Central Illinois office, storm chances are expected to increase mainly from southern Illinois northward to the Interstate 72 corridor late Tuesday night through early Wednesday.

Forecasters said Tuesday afternoon temperatures will range from 77 to 85 degrees across much of the region, with a mix of clouds and sunshine. Areas south of I-70 and along the I-72 corridor could see scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms later in the evening.

Storm chances are expected to continue overnight into Wednesday morning, with lows ranging from 58 to 66 degrees. Wednesday highs are forecast to climb into the upper 70s and middle 80s despite additional scattered thunderstorm chances.

Cities including Springfield, Decatur, Jacksonville, Taylorville, and Champaign could see periods of rain and lightning, especially overnight and during the early morning commute Wednesday.

The weather service said precipitation chances later this week have shifted farther south, allowing drier conditions to return by Thursday and continue into the weekend. High temperatures Thursday through Saturday are expected to remain in the upper 70s and low 80s with mostly sunny skies.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and remain weather aware if outdoor plans are scheduled Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.
