Chicago, IL – Residents of Illinois should prepare for scattered showers and thunderstorms today as a southward sagging cold front moves through the region. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Chicago issued a forecast at 5:45 AM CDT, predicting that these weather conditions will persist through the day and end early this evening.

According to the NWS, areas south of Interstate 80 will experience the highest likelihood of precipitation, with a 40-60% chance of storms. Thursday and Friday will bring more pleasant weather, with sunny skies and temperatures ranging from 74 to 82 degrees on Thursday and 77 to 84 degrees on Friday. The coolest conditions will be near Lake Michigan.

Looking ahead, the weekend promises continued pleasant weather with sunny skies and temperatures reaching 80 to 87 degrees. However, the NWS warns that a hot, humid, and occasionally stormy pattern is expected to return next week, starting Monday with temperatures approaching 89 degrees.

Air quality in the Chicago area is currently moderate, with an index of 95, similar to yesterday. Residents should remain cautious, especially those with respiratory conditions.
