Illinois – Water is already pushing high along riverbanks this morning, and low-lying roads near the Des Plaines River are seeing early impacts as flooding continues across parts of the Chicago metro.

According to the National Weather Service, a Flood Warning remains in effect for the Des Plaines River at multiple points, including near Lincolnshire, Gurnee, and Des Plaines. Water levels have reached around 15 to 18.5 feet in some areas, with minor to moderate flooding ongoing and expected to persist into early Friday.

In Cook and Lake counties, roads near IL-22, Milwaukee Avenue, and areas close to I-294 could see water encroaching on shoulders or nearby access roads. Some trails and forest preserve paths are already inundated. Drivers should avoid flooded roadways and allow extra time, especially near river crossings.

For now, skies remain partly sunny with temperatures climbing into the upper 50s today, helping dry out surfaces away from flood zones. Conditions stay quiet into tonight, but changes arrive quickly.

By Thursday afternoon, winds increase and temperatures jump to 76°F. A 30% chance of showers develops late in the day, followed by a more active pattern Friday. Rain chances rise to 70%, and thunderstorms could develop after 1 p.m., potentially slowing traffic on I-90, I-94, and I-55.

Meteorologists are also monitoring broader storm development across the Midwest. While severe weather is not guaranteed locally, isolated strong storms with gusty winds cannot be ruled out Friday into Friday night.

Saturday offers a brief break with cooler air and highs near 59°F before another round of showers returns late Sunday into Monday.
